“Spooncreel” : this was the name given to the gable-end of a building which resembled a “spume-creel” i.e a basket for gathering sea-weed. The artist painted this series of paintings over a number of years portraying buildings of his birthplace. Some of the buildings remain but sadly most have been demolished to make way for new builds. This series was first exhibited in feburary 2000 at rozelle house galeries. The remaining pieces of work can be viewed in the cockburn gallery. These paintings of his home towns buildings are richly coloured and original in style and interpretation. The buildings come to life on canvas tilting drunkenly to the viewer. They are now part of maybole history, a recording of how it once was. The artist continues to work on studies utilising his local environment as an inspiration for his latest exhibits.
